Looking for Work
First Few Days of My Journey with My New Crew

I was on my way to Nightstone in search of work. As much as it galls me to be on land, I don't have a lot of choice if I want to be free to search for the Retribution eventually. My contacts were certain that I would be able to make quick money in this town, but when I arrived, this certainty was broken. Along the way I met Thelone', a man of the woods, Azrael, a man who apparently serves a god I am not familiar with, Raiden, and Y'nal, an elf of higher rank than I've even met.

Nightstone was empty of people, but full of goblins and ogres. It made no sense, until we saw stones the size of small buildings scattered around the town. I think if I'd seen them falling on my town, I'd run as well.

DATE – DAY 2-5 After returning to consciousness, I realized that I have yet to fulfill my destiny - N’asr did not call me home but it was a close call. My sentiment for Zent's general attitude has not abated. The mistress of the keep had barely been laid to rest before the vultures came for the spoils. Now they are the spoils, an ironic turn of events.

After regaining strength, the party headed north towards the caves. Arianna (Aria) Sterling and Thelöné Skovagt kindly scouted the entrance and the entire hill. What a gigantic waste of time. While I appreciate a little intelligence, sitting in the woods for the better part of an hour just to find out there are two entrances and a chimney was underwhelming. So Y'nal Eldoryn sends his bird down the chimney, just to find – wait for it - goblins was annoying. Aria had sneaked up to the entrance and spotted goblins and what turned out to be an ogre, in like the first couple minutes. So we snuck in the back way and discovered a large stalagmite with several holes that turned out to be the home of a black pudding. Thelöné nearly got himself dissolved, and both Aria and he enjoyed a bit of the au naturel, once their leather armor got disolved. I have managed to show Aria the value of a good short bow, seams she was getting tired of being on the wrong end of a blade.

So I brilliantly drew the ogres and goblins into an ambush using dancing lights. Dumb ogres and goblins, don't go into the light. We quickly dispatched the ogres, but the pesky goblins kept peaking out from behind the first dead ogre and shooting me. The pesky vermin actually put me down briefly. Eitherway, we mopped up the rest of the nest, and freed the townsfolk. Morak Ur’gray, the proprietor of the Nightstone Inn, was deeply saddened by news of the death of Lady
Velrosa Nandar. Given the news, he asked us to travel to Bryn Shander in Icewind Dale to inform the next of kin of his friend, Semile Southwell. He and the others would remain to rebuild the town. While I'm not keen on traveling many months, I figured that I would inform the next of kin, when I ever had the need or opportunity to reach the place Eitherway, heading to Waterdeep was going in the right direction. We helped him rebuild a portion of the bridge between the keep and the town before we set off.

After traveling north for three day, a large cloud with a tower atop it came into view. No rocks started fall, but a 1000-ft staircase made of clouds descended. I immediately accepted the invitation and started climbing, while the others "discussed" what to make of it. Finally, I guess the decided it was safe. I mean, we saw the giant bolders in Nightstone.

After an onerous climb, we reached the top, but there was no one to greet us, just a set of closed giant doors (pun intended). You would think that after all that, someone would be there to great you with a pint or two of cold ale. Knocked on the door, and heard a voice from far away, beckoning us to enter. So I open the door, look around and there is no one around. Then floating down through a giant hole in the ceiling comes this giant. He introduces himself as Zephyros, a cloud giant wizard. Make sense then to have your tower on a cloud. He explains that he has his divinations had instructed him to seek a group of "small folk" to restore the ording. He was horrified to learn of the attack on Nightstone, and explained that ording was shattered and so the giants were collection various relics and that a conflict was brewing to reestablish the castes. Regardless, he as offered to assist us, first by transporting us to Waterdeep and then on to Bryn Shander. The giant is a little crazy, but was willing to share some of his 1st level spells with his fellow wizards.

After traveling in the direction of Waterdeep for a couple of day, a group of Illuskan humans riding giant vultures landed on the cloud and knocked on the door requesting an audience with Zephyros. He was apparently busy with some kind of experiment, and left asked us to handle it. They were exceedingly rude, and after they yelled at Zephyros, who told them to go away. They became hostile. While I was going to close the door, they thought otherwise. Needless to say, it was not the fall that killed them, but made them generally unrecognizable. Got a couple of cool looking helms out of the deal. This is turning into quite the scavenger hunt lead by a schizoid giant whose head is really in the clouds.

Next stop Waterdeep…

Nightstone
Goblin Cleansing & Zent Bloodletting

DATEDAY 1: We arrived outside of the town of Nightstone in early morning. The city was still except for the discordant ringing of a bell from within. The lowered drawbridge beckons in sharp contrast to the damage to the keep. As we approach the drawbridge, an inspection of the road indicated that a number of goblins coming and going, along with a trail of booted feet fleeing to the north.

The three of the group blunder towards the gate upon observing two worgs near the town square – I have their back. Fear not, the worgs noticed my stealthy friends, and soon they are dead and my friends have new scars to boast about.

We closed the drawbridge and cleansed the town of many goblins, learning that they arrived to a deserted city taking prisoners of townfolk and murdering and eating several. I dispatched those I found with extreme prejudice, give their heinous crimes, and piled the bodies near gate to burn. N'sar should be pleased. While searching the rest of the town, we discovered a pet tressym in a partially collapsed residence. This flying cat appeared to be hungry, so we feed the pet and it took a liking to me. It's collar has the name Rillix, and since it is now following me around, I believe I shall take it as my familiar.

Kela Darkhope was found in the Nightstone Inn. She was quite evasive when we questioned her, and had a strange flying snake hidden in her robes. From her and the few remaining guards in the keep, that the city was attacked by pale skinned giants in a flying fortress, dropping boulders upon the city and stealing the Nightstone. Lady Nandar was killed in the assault. After speaking with the guards, we determined that she had next of kin in Waterdeep. We took Lady Nandar body to the family crypt for a proper burial, and were attacked by a specter, which Raiden dispatched easily.

Just before evening, we heard a cry from the drawbridge requesting entrance. Upon climbing to the top of the tower, a group of seven mercenaries, claiming to be bounty hunters, tried to negotiate entrance into the city. Represented by a half-elf named Xolkin, they claimed that a women named Kela was wanted for murdering her husband. I questioned them at length about their authority in this matter, and they could produce nothing that would substantiate either the crime or her involvement in the matter. Xolkin then began to callout her name, and after several minutes, she arrived at the top of the tower. Next the claimed to by merchants, only wanting to establish a trade monopoly in the city by taking over the Lionshield Coster. It became clear that their claims were false, and that Kela and Xolkin were known to each other. Furthermore, it became clear that they were affiliated with they were of a criminal sort. Kela was lowered over the wall, the group threatened us, saying this is not over, and then rode away. We organized the remaining guards and set a watchman.

As expected, the miscreants returned that evening and attacked the party, trying to gain entrance to the town through the broken bridge to the keep. The battle was fierce, many of our group, including myself, were felled with grievous wounds. However, what appeared to be a slaughter of our party was thwarted by Thelöné, who managed to deliver the killing blow to both Kela and Xolkin. Three remaining outlaws fled the carnage. The remaining night passed uneventfully, and Aria, Raiden, and I regained consciousness the next day. A review of their possessions indicate that they work Zhentarim, as Xolkin wears a signet ring emblazoned with their symbol.

With the city secured, we next seek the missing towns folks in the caves to the north…

Prologue
How I came to Nightstone

DATE: I have traveled many tendays west along the Black Road towards the Sword Coast since I was deposited in an oasis, at the western edge of the Anauroch Desert. The trip to LLorkh was uneventful, as I was able to earn passage in a trade caravan. We made good time, but I miss the carefree flight of the skyship. My feet have finally adapted to the rigors of the road. The Zent's control the city, and it angers me that the desert must endure their corruption. May that the sand's would scour them from my home.

I continued on foot, meeting up with a number of small traveling companions and others headed west to either Daggerford and Waterdeep. I had a number of conversations, and ultimately decided that Waterdeep would be the first destination on my road to discovery and enlightenment. Additionally, I may find uncover the magical secrets and the materials (boat) to construct my own skyship. Once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return.

While traveling north of Daggerford, I came across a fellow Harper Thelöné Skovagt, who was headed on a mission to Nightstone. Having no set schedule, I decided to travel with him and provide assistance in negotiations between the elves and the town. The weather was pleasant. Rain is much better than sandstorms.

Eventually, we encountered several other travelers headed in the same direction. While some say there is safety in numbers, but that is false. There is only good conversation, and maybe someone to notify your next of kin. After a good nights rest, we should arrive at Nightstone on the morrow…
